Searchers recover body of diver missing off Hawaii's Kona coast

KONA, Big Island, Hawaii (3 May 2007) -- Police have identified the body of a diver who went missing on Tuesday as Theodore Chapman.

Chapman, 46, of Kailua, Kona, disappeared while collecting tropical fish near Road to the Sea Beach.

Searchers found his body at about 2pm on Wednesday in deep water off Kau.

Fire Department rescue divers found the body at a depth of about 35 meters (115 feet) approximately 137 meters (150 feet) offshore in the area where he was diving.

The victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital and pronounced dead.

The scuba diving accident is under investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii County Fire Department search teams recovered the scuba diving victim's body after searching for 24 hours.
