GRIMSBY, Ontario (3 May 2007) -- A man is in critical condition after a scuba diving accident in Lake Ontario.

The 44-year-old diver, whose name has not yet been released, encountered problems while scuba diving near the Elizabeth Street pier off the Old Grimsby Pump House.

Two men who were sport fishing on a boat in the area rescued the stricken diver, called 911 and brought him to shore.

The victim was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital where he remains in a coma.

Hospital officials confirmed that the man is in critical condition.

The scuba diving accident is under investigation, however, police do not suspect foul play.
