FORT WHITE, Florida (14 May 2007) -- A woman died while scuba diving with her husband and friends in the Santa Fe River. Juanita Akins, 45, went missing soon after the group entered the water and descended. The other divers said they found her floating at the surface at about 12:25pm, called 911 for help and started CPR. Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, sheriff's deputies from Gilchrist and Columbia counties responded and an ambulance responded to the call. Paramedics rushed the victim from Santa Fe River Park to Lake City Hospital where she was pronounced dead. "At this point, it looks like a tragic accident but an autopsy will be conducted (this) morning for an absolute cause of death," Columbia County Sheriff Bill Gootee told reporters. The autopsy will be conducted by the Medical Examiners Office in Jacksonville. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
