Tourist seriously injured while scuba diving with Diamond Head Divers

HONOLULU, Hawaii (17 May 2007) -- A Japanese tourist was seriously injured after a scuba diving accident near Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor off the coast of Oahu.

The male visitor was scuba diving with Diamond Head Divers when he encountered problems and lost consciousness.

After receiving a call for help from the dive boat crew at about 9am, fire officials and EMS paramedics rushed to Ala Wai Small boat Harbor.

The injured tourist was taken to Kuakini Medical Center where hospital officials described his condition as "serious but stable."

Authorities have not yet released the man's identity and age.

Diamond Head Divers said it had "no comment" about the scuba diving accident.
