WEST HAWK LAKE, Canada (22 May 2007) -- An experienced diver from Winnipeg died while scuba diving at West Hawk Lake.

Gilbert Cavrois, 52, was diving with a friend when he encountered problems at depth and resurfaced apparently calling for help.

Before other divers in the area could reach Cavrois, he disappeared beneath the surface.

A few moments later, other divers found the victim, brought him up to the surface and started to administer CPR.

The emergency responders called for help and continued their attempts to resuscitate the victim until the Falcon Lake ambulance arrived.

Authorities told CDNN the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
