MENDOCINO, California (18 June 2007) -- A San Francisco man who died while diving off the Mendocino County coast became the eighth diver fatality off Northern California in three months. Sun Leung Wong, 51, was diving for abalone near Jack Peters Creek when the accident happened. According to police, the victim's wife spotted her husband's body floating at the surface and called 911. Paramedics were unable to revive Wong and pronounced him dead at the scene of the diving accident. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Wong is the eighth diver to die since underwater photographer Kawika Chetron disappeared on March 17. Of the eight diving fatalities, six of the deceased were diving for abalone. The eight divers who have died in 2007 off California's North Coast are: - Kawika Chetron, 35, (died on March 17, 2007 while scuba diving and taking pictures)
- Jack Joseph Tuso, 55, (died on April 1, 2007 while diving for abalone)
- Selina Sau Yee Cheung, 60, (died on April 18, 2007 while diving for abalone)
- Arthur Boyd, 70, (died on April 18, 2007 while diving for abalone)
- Craig Sangalli, 51, (died on April 22, 2007 while diving for abalone)
- Victor Smith, 50, (died on April 30, 2007 while scuba diving and spearfishing)
- Hung Truong Ha, 59, (died on May 21, 2007 while diving for abalone)
- Sun Leung Wong, 51, (died on June 17, 2007 while diving for abalone)
