SEATTLE, Washington (3 July 2007) -- Authorities have released the identity of a man who died scuba diving last Saturday in Seattle.

Granite Garver, 48, died while scuba diving with a friend on Saturday evening off Alki Point.

Seattle Fire Department spokesman Sue Stangl told CDNN that Garver and the "buddy diver" were at the surface when a large wave from a passing freighter hit them.

Garver disappeared beneath the surface and his friend immediately descended in an attempt to find him.

After searching underwater for about 30 minutes, Garver's friend resurfaced and called 911.

About 15 minutes later, Seattle Fire Department rescue divers found the victim's body about 15 meters offshore at a depth of less than two meters.
