SAN PEDRO, California (8 July 2007) -- A man was rushed to a hyperbaric chamber after a scuba diving accident off Cabrillo Beach.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials said that shortly before noon the diver ascended too rapidly from a depth of 67 meters (220 feet) after he noticed an "ammonia taste" in his air supply.

Authorities told CDNN they did not know which dive operator supplied the tank and air the diver was using.

A rescue helicopter took the injured diver to a hyperbaric chamber on Catalina Island.

The chamber is operated by the University of Southern California as part of its ocean research facility located near Two Harbors on Catalina Island.

The injured diver, whose name has not yet been released, is expected to make a full recovery.
