SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (18 July 2007) -- A search is continuing off Puerto Rico for a missing scuba diver. Alfonso Santana Rivera, 36, of Hato Rey disappeared on Saturday after he and his dive buddy lost contact off Desecheo Island. Authorities launched a full-scale search for both divers and found Rivera's dive buddy on Saturday afternoon. The crew of an Air Station Borinquen HH-65 Dolphin helicopter spotted the missing diver on rocks off the northwest coast of Desecheo Island and guided the Orca Too boat to the area. The crew of the Orca Too rescued the missing diver at about 4:45pm. Coast Guard officials told CDNN they have completed 22 searches covering more than 3,058 nautical square miles in their ongoing mission to find Rivera. Authorities have deployed HH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Air Station Borinquen, an HU-25 Falcon Jet from Air Station Miami in Florida, an HC-130 from Air Station Clearwater also in Florida, a Puerto Rico National guard C-130E, Coast Guard cutters Matinicus and Sapelo based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, F.U.R.A.
