DEERFIELD BEACH, Florida (23 July 2007) -- A Florida man was killed when he resurfaced while scuba diving and lightning struck his air tank.

Stephen Wilson, 36, of Deerfield Beach was scuba dviing with three friends when a severe thunderstorm hit the area.

When Wilson resurfaced about 10 meters from the dive boat, lightning struck his air tank and apparently he was electrocuted.

The three other divers in the group pulled Wilson back onboard the boat, radioed for help and initiated CPR as they rushed to shore.

Paramedics were standing by onshore when the dive boat arrived and took over CPR and rushed the victim to North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Deerfied Beach authorities, an autopsy confirmed that Wilson died of electrocution.
