LA JOLLA, California (26 July 2007) -- Lifeguards have recovered the body of a man who died scuba diving off the coast of southern California.

The diver, a male in his 40s has not yet been identified.

Officials said the man told lifeguards that he planned to go diving but was unfamiliar with the area.

A couple of hours later at about 5:15pm, a kayaker spotted the body floating about 140 meters off La Jolla Shores and notified lifeguards.

Attempts to revive the victim were not successful and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
