STROUD, UK (7 August 2007) -- The family of Stroud dad David White, who died in a diving tragedy near Plymouth last week, have paid a touching tribute to him.The 42-year-old, from Rodborough, died along with diving friend Kaye Moss, from Cam, on Thursday during a recreational dive at a shipwreck.

Dave, a devoted family man, leaves behind his wife of nearly 20 years, Louise, and three children, Amy, 17, Julian, 16 and Grace, nine.

He was one of four brothers, the others being Chris, Mike and Simon. His parents, John and Margaret, are deceased.

Dave lived in the Stroud area all his life and went to Highwood School. As a youngster he was a member of Amberley Scout Group.

After leaving school he joined BT as an apprentice. He worked in both Cheltenham and Gloucester for the firm for around 17 years.

He then joined Astec, a Cheltenham-based mobile phone company. He bought out the voicemail part of the business and was the managing director of Astec Telecom Ltd based in Woodchester, working with his wife and brother-in-law, James Carter.

He started diving with his brother Simon eight years ago. They joined the South Gloucester British Sub Aqua Club and he met Cam teacher Kaye there.

Dave qualified as a dive leader at the same time as Simon in 2004 and in total he had completed more than 200 dives in the UK and overseas.

Simon said; "Everyone who met my brother liked him. No one would have a bad word to say about him.

"He had lots of friends and was very generous with his time and support. He always had a positive outlook."

Simon was best man for Dave when he married Louise in 1987. Simon said Dave was about to return the favour.

"Dave was due to be my best man at the end of the month when I marry my fianc??e, Caroline Humble," he said.

Caroline said Dave had loved DIY. "He was always fixing or making things," she said. "He was fully committed to whatever project he started".

Dave was also very committed to regularly donating blood and platelets, which Simon said was "just another example of his selfless nature".

The funeral will be held at Gloucester crematorium at 3pm on Thursday, August 16. In lieu of floral tributes, donations to Cancer Research and The Heart Foundation would be welcome (c/o Phillip Ford and Son, Funeral Directors).
