ISLES OF SCILLY, UK (25 August 2007) -- A Coastguard helicopter rescued an injured scuba diver suffering from decompression sickness.

Coastguard officials told CDNN the injured diver got the bends after a rapid ascent while scuba diving off the coast of the Isles of Scilly.

After the Falmouth Coastguard station received a call for help, a helicopter was scrambled from the RNAS Culdrose.

The helicopter picked up the stricken diver and took him to a hyperbaric chamber at the Hyperbaric Diseases Research Unit at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The diver was listed in satisfactory condition and the accident is under investigation.
