VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida (27 August 2007) -- A boater found the body of a man who went missing while scuba diving off Ponce Inlet 10 days ago.

Kenneth Gessinger, 53, of Port Orange disappeared on August 18 while scuba diving with his son about 12 miles offshore.

The victim was still wearing most of his scuba diving equipment when his body was recovered.

According to Gessinger's son, both divers experienced problems with their scuba diving equipment after they descended.

Struggling with their buoyancy control vests, the divers decided to resurface. The father ditched some of his weights but was still unable to establish positive buoyancy.

The son managed to pull his father to the surface and then swam back to the boat.

During that brief interval, the father disappeared apparently slipping back beneath the ocean's surface.

Coast Guard vessels and helicopters were deployed to search for Gessinger but after two days, the search was called off.
