BALI, Indonesia (3 Sep 2007) -- The body of a Czech tourist who went missing while scuba diving near Nusa Penida has been recovered. Authorities told CDNN the body of Milea Bauerova, 41, was found near the dive site where she went missing and has been taken to the morgue at Sanglah Hospital. Authorities and local dive industry leaders blasted MM Diving for taking Bauerova, an inexperienced diver to Blue Corner, a high-risk dive site not suitable to beginners due to strong currents, high waves and strong winds. "Putting an experienced diver in those conditions is nothing less than homicidal," a local dive center manager told CDNN. "MM Diving should know better especially this time of year when the conditions at Blue Corner are worse than any other time of the year." Government rescue officials also critized MM Diving owners Milan and Monica Jeglikova for ignoring previous warnings that sea conditions in July and August would be inappropriate for diving operations. "I don't know why the diving company ignored the warning and (I don't know) on what assumptions they saw it was safe to take divers to that site," said Putu Suardana from the Denpasar Search and Rescue team. CDNN previously reported that in the aftermath of the accident, MM Diving continued business-as-usual instead of joining the search to find the missing diver. In a similar accident that occured in November last year, MM Diving lost two divers who were later found dead in a similar scuba diving accident. |
