KAGOSHIMA, Japan (13 Sep 2007) -- A judge sentenced a resort owner to a prison term of 16 months after two divers he was supervising died in Kagoshima.

Kiichi Koshimoto, 37, and Mayumi Asada, 27, died on May 6, 2005 while scuba diving near Kakeroma Island in Kagoshima.

A court ruled that their dive guide, Teruhiko Ohmuro, was guilty of professional negligence that led to the deaths of the two divers.

The court decision criticized Ohmuro, who owns Horizon Club Resort,  for failing to maintain contact with the divers and failing to respond appropriately after they went missing.
