CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (19 Sep 2007) -- A man drowned while diving for golf balls in a water hazard at Padre Isles Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Police declined to identify the 36-year-old victim who was working with his cousin in a narrown water hazard on the fourth hole when the accident happened.

At about 1:30pm, the victim's cousin started looking for him after he failed to resurface and then ran to the clubhouse and called police.

Two hours later at about 3:30pm, a police search and rescue diver located the victim's body at a depth of about 2.4 meters.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Police said both divers were wearing wetsuits and weight belts but were not using underwater breathing equipment (SCUBA).

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
