CORAL GABLES, Florida (23 Sep 2007) -- A man drowned while scuba diving Sunday in Biscayne Bay.

Police declined to identify the victim who was diving with two friends at a depth of about 18 meters (60 ft) when he apparently tried to ditch his equipment.

The two other divers told police they did not realize anything was wrong until one of them noticed the victim was not wearing his dive gear.

They immediately brought him to the surface, pulled him back aboard the boat and radioed for help

A Coral Gables marine patrol unit rushed to the scene of the scuba diving accident but it was too late and the victim was pronounced dead.

It is not known if the boat was equipped with emergency medical oxygen and if the other divers administered CPR as they waited for help.
