SELSEY, UK (23 Sep 2007) -- A man was airlifted to hospital after a scuba diving accident southeast of Selsey.

Coastguard officials said the diver, whose identity has not yet been released, ascended too rapidly and also took in water.

A Solent Coastguard helicopter was scrambled and rescued the injured diver about 11 miles southeast of Selsey.

The victim was airlifted to Portsmouth and treated at the Queen Alexandria Hospital, which is best-equipped for scuba-related injuries.

Coastguard officials said the man is expected to make a full recovery.
