British tourist dies after scuba diving accident in Malta

QAWRA, Malta (28 Sep 2007) -- A British tourist has died in hospital after he was involved in a scuba diving accident.

Anthony McMurrey, 59, encountered problems while scuba diving at Qawra Point in Malta.

Other divers at the scene of the accident responded with emergency first aid and called for help.

A rescue helicopter was scrambled by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and took the diver to an ambulance.

The victim was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital but died several hours later.

Authorities in Malta are investigating the scuba diving accident.
