BROCKPORT, New York (20 Oct 2007) — A college professor died while scuba diving in Lake Ontario.

John Freidhoff, 46, of Angola in Erie County was found dead with his mask off at a depth of about 27.4 meters (90 feet).

The scuba diving accident victim was taken to Lakeside Hospital in Brockport where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said Freidhoff and another diver were attempting to find a sensor that was lost by SUNY Brockport's Department of Science and Biology at a depth of 24.3 meters (80 feet) to 30 meters (100 feet) when a cable snapped.
