SCAPA FLOW, UK (24 Oct 2007) — A diver who is missing at Scapa Flow in Scotland has been named by police.

Martin Voordouw, 40, from the Netherlands, has still not been found after the dive in Orkney, north-west Scotland, Northern Constabulary said.

This is despite renewed efforts by specialist police divers.

Mr Voordouw was due to surface at midday on Tuesday but failed to return to his dive boat, the Jean Elaine, although his diving buddy reappeared.

It is thought he was exploring one of the vessels in the German grand fleet which sank at Scapa Flow.

Crew on the Jean Elaine raised the alarm and a search was launched.

On Tuesday, two lifeboats from Stromness and Longhope and a helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth combed the area, while boats in the area sent divers down to look for the missing man.

The search resumed, with divers from Grampian Police scouring Scapa Flow. A remotely operated vehicle was also used to search the vessel that the diver was thought to have been exploring.

But no sign of Mr Voordouw has yet been found and the search was called off.
