HAGATNA, Guam (3 Nov 2007) — A tourist is in criticial condition after a scuba diving accident in Guam. The 63-year-old tourist remained in critical condition last night at Guam Memorial Hospital after rescue personnel assisted her out of the waters off Piti yesterday. Several Guam Fire Department units responded to a report of a sick person at the FishEye Park around 10:30 a.m., where a woman had been diving with a group, GFD spokesman Firefighter Angel Llagas said. The woman was reported as being "conscious and responsive" when she surfaced from the waters. But she began having trouble breathing when GFD's Engine-7 crew arrived, Llagas said. Rescue personnel helped bring the woman to shore. She then went into cardiac arrest as she was taken into the ambulance, Llagas said. Medics revived and stabilized the woman as she was being taken to the hospital. They continued to conduct CPR on her en route to the hospital, Llagas added. |
