TOWNSVILLE, Australia (26 Nov 2007) — A Townsville coronial inquest into the 2003 death of an American honeymooner on a popular north Queensland dive site heard evidence this morning from an experienced scuba diver working on the site at the time. Paul Crocombe is manager of the Townsville-based company Adrenaline Dive. He told the inquest he is a registered diving instructor who has taught more than 1,000 people. He says on the morning Tina Watson, 26, drowned, he was checking the moorings of the Yongala shipwreck. He says he was aboard the boat Spoilsport when he heard someone shouting from the water, "she's gone straight to the bottom". The inquest has heard Ms Watson's husband was with her just before she died and had a rescue dive qualification. Mr Crocombe says that means he has been trained to deal with panicked divers, but a piece of paper does not always reflect a diver's competency. SOURCE - ABC |
