HOBART, Tasmania (3 Dec 2007) — A British tourist was airlifted to hospital after a scuba diving accident in Tasmania.

Authorities said the injured female diver stopped breathing and nearly died during a scuba diving excursion to Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula.

The dive boat crew managed to resuscitate the woman and she was airlifted by helicopter to Royal Hobart Hospital at about 11am.

Hospital officials have not yet identified the scuba diving accident victim but said she was in stable condition.
