NANAIMO, Canada (8 Dec 2007) — RCMP divers have recovered the body of a scuba diver who went missing off Nanaimo.

Daniel Harrington, 32, disappeared on November 24 while scuba diving with his girlfriend at the HMCS Cape Breton, a military vessel sunk off Nanaimo as a 'ships 2 reefs' scuba diving attraction.

Authorities told CDNN the couple lost contact while inside the ship. The girlfriend made it back out and ascended but the victim did not resurface.

The Coast Guard launched an air and sea search but no trace of Harrington was found in the search area.

RCMP divers then started searching for the victim's body in the Cape Breton.  After searching all but the stern section, police reopened the wreck to recreational divers.

On November 30, before police were able to resume their search, amateur divers found the victim's body in the search section of the vessel.

Police said an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

We'd like to know exactly what happened to him," RCMP Cpl. Greg Cox told reporters.
