WELLINGTON, New Zealand (31 Dec 2007) — After several recent diving fatalities, Water Safety New Zealand has issued a warning urging people to practice accepted safe diving procedures. General Manager Matt Claridge said divers must be sure to properly maintain scuba diving equipment including regulators, always dive with a buddy and become familiar with local conditions such as currents. Claridge said that more divers are in the water during the warm season and singled out novice divers who are more likely to get into trouble. In recent days, two scuba divers died including a 49-year-old male who drowned at Cape Runaway and a 29-year-old female whose body was recovered off Tauranga. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORKCDNN RELATED NEWSNEW ZEALAND - Another scuba diver dies in Bay of PlentyNEW ZEALAND - Body of missing scuba diver recovered |
