PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (6 Jan 2008) — A Canadian woman on a Celebrity Constellation cruise ship holiday with her husband died while scuba diving with Scuba Fun in St. Maarten. Amanda Jane Joiner died after a scuba diving accident at Proselyte Reef, a few miles off Great Bay Harbour. Police told CDNN that Joiner descended with her husband and a Scuba Fun dive guide at the reef but soon encountered problems and signaled that she wanted to resurface. The three divers ascended to the surface and returned to Scuba Fun's dive boat where Joiner collapsed after complaining that she felt sick. With foam running from the victim's mouth and nose, the dive boat crew initiated CPR and called for help. After other divers who were diving with Scuba Fun resurfaced, the victim was taken ashore where she was pronounced dead. According to Police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson, Joiner "died of natural causes", however, no autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of death. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
