SHELL HARBOUR, Australia (21 Jan 2008) — A man drowned after a scuba diving accident in Bushrangers Bay near Shell Harbour.

Authorities declined to release the identity of the victim but told CDNN he was a 70-year-old resident of Sydney.

Police said he was diving with a 41-year-old friend off Bass Point at about 11am when he encountered difficulties and lost consciousness.

The friend pulled the victim to shore but could not revive him.

Emergency services who were called to Bushrangers Bay also failed to revive the man and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by local police.
