TEQUESTA, Florida (27 Jan 2008) — Search and rescue teams from six different agencies are continuing to search for a man who disappeared while diving near Tequesta.

Experienced diver Brad Knoebel, 25, went missing while diving with a friend near the bridge between Tequesta and Jupiter Island.

Authorities said Knoebel disappeared soon after the two divers entered the channel at about midnight.

The search involves boats and dive tearms from Tequesta Fire-Rescue, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Delray Beach police, Jupiter police, Boca Raton police, Jupiter Island police, PBSO and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Friends said Knoebel is an excellent free diver, capable of reaching depths of more than 24 meters (80 ft), and that he enjoyed diving late at night.

Peter Allen, a spokesperson for Tequesta Fire-Rescue, said that although late night diving is not unheard of, it is unusual and risky.
