CAYMAN ISLANDS — A massive air and sea search is underway for a man who disappeared while scuba diving off Cracked Conch in West Bay in the Cayman Islands.
Police said Sun Divers called for help after an American tourist went missing at about 3pm on Tuesday.
Search and rescue officials said the diver disappeared while scuba diving with a group of five other divers.
The other divers said the missing diver experienced buoyancy problems at depth and signaled that he wanted to abort the dive and return to shore.
The other divers in the group said they saw the man ascend and start swimming towards shore but when they finished diving he was not there.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police, the Department of Environment, the Port Authority and several dive boats including the Cayman Aggressor are involved in the search.
A helicopter also joined the search for the missing scuba diver who owns a timeshare in Morritts Tortuga.
The Cayman Aggressor is assisting with the missing diver search.
