BLUE SINK, Florida (1 Feb 2008) — A woman scuba diving with friends at 40 Fathom Grotto has died.

Authorities told CDNN that Rebecca Harden, 54, of Hickson, Tennessee, disappeared as she was ascending and making safety stops with other divers at the renowned Florida dive site.

Sheriff's detectives said the scuba diving instructor supervising the group noticed that Harden was missing during one of the safety stops.

The instructor descended again following bubbles until he located Harden and brought her to the surface.

Divers at the scene of the accident initiated CPR and called 911 for help.

Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the call and took over CPR as they rushed the victim to the hospital.

Harden never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at 2:40pm at Munroe Regional Medical Center.

It is not clear what caused the scuba diving fatality and whether Harden was participating in a scuba diving course when she died.
