JACKSONVILLE, Florida (7 Mar 2008) — A scuba diver has been rescued after he went missing off the Florida coast.

A SH-60F Seahawk helicopter crew spotted the missing diver, winched him up and took him to Jacksonville Naval Air Station for medical treatment.

The Seahawk helicopter joined the search after the Coast Guard requested help from the Norfolk-based carrier Theodore Roosevelt, which was conducting operations in the area.

"Providing assistance to mariners in distress is the obligation of every ship and sailor at sea," said Roosevelt commanding officer Capt. Ladd Wheeler.

"We are ready and willing to join in the search effort and extremely pleased that the individual was rescued."
