Kauai tourist in critical condition after PADI scuba course accident

KAUAI, Hawaii (16 Mar 2008) — A tourist is in critical condition after a scuba diving accident at Koloa Landing in Kauai.

The tourist, a 69-year-old woman from Hugo, Minnesota, nearly drowned during a PADI scuba diving course organized by Aquatic Adventures.

After the woman lost consciousness, the dive instructor pulled her to shore and called for help.

According to the Kauai Fire Department, responders from Kihu'e fire station rushed to Koloa Landing at about 9:45am.

Po'ipu lifeguards already in the area to search for a missing kayaker also responded to the call and administered CPR.

The woman was taken to Wilcox Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
