BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS (29 Apr 2008) — A tourist diver from California drowned in the British Virgin Islands.

Eugene Horton, a 57-year-old electrician from Big Creek, California, died while snorkeling with his wife and friends off Norman Island beach.

Police said the other divers noticed that Horton was floating unconscious at the surface about a half hour after the group entered the water.

They pulled him aboard a small boat and three doctors who were snorkeling with the group administered CPR but failed to revive the victim.

Authorities said Horton was a diabetic who was taking medication for high blood pressure.
