KEY LARGO, Florida (30 Apr 2008) — A tourist diver from Georgia drowned off Key Largo.

Allen Gregory Kay, 47, was diving in rough water with friends at Elbow, a shallow reef about five miles offshore.

Witnesses said Kay surfaced but lost consciousness as he was swimming towards the boat.

Other divers pulled him aboard the boat and administered CPR on the trip back to Garden Cove Drive.

Paramedics took over when the boat reached shore and rushed the victim to Mariner's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
