PUNTA GORDA, Florida (28 May 2008) — Authorities today recovered the body of a man who disappeared while scuba diving.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Dive Team and Marine Patrol found the body about seven or eight miles offshore near the area where Dale Witt disappeared on May 17.

Witt, 67, was scuba diving off the Spare Time dive boat owned and operated by Legacy Charters in southwest Florida when he went missing near Gasparilla Pass.

Witt had resurfaced but while the Spare Time dive boat captain was picking up another diver, he disappeared.

According to Lt. Andy Kolba, head of Special Operations, the body will be taken to the Charlotte County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.
