Scuba diver missing off St. Lucie Inlet

MARTIN COUNTY, Florida (30 May 2008) — The Coast Guard and local law enforcement officers are searching for a scuba diver who went missing off St. Lucie Inlet.

Authorities have not yet identified the 46-year-old male diver who disappeared about six miles offshore at 12:05pm.

Coast Guard officials told CDNN two men were scuba diving together off a small boat, however, they apparently lost contact underwater and only one resurfaced.

The Coast Guard responded to the missing diver emergency by coordinating an air and sea search that included a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft from Miami, and a boat from Fort Pierce.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office assisted with a helicopter and patrol boat.

Authorities described the condition in the search area as fair with 10 to 15 mph winds, 2 to 3 ft seas and water temperature between 75 and 80 degrees.search site are seas of 2 to 3 feet, an east wind from 10 to 15 mph and water temperature between 75 and 80 degrees.
