WEYMOUTH BAY, Dorset, UK (9 June 2008) — A diver was airlifted to hospital after a scuba diving accident off the Dorset coast.

Authorities declined to identify the injured diver, who was found unconscious at the surface.

The captain of the Scimitar dive boat called for help and marine rescue authorities scrambled the Coastguard helicopter Rescue 106.

The helicopter took the victim to Poole, where he was transferred to an ambulance and taken to a hyperbaric chamber for medical treatment.

Witnesses said the Sea Dog dive boat assisted by taking Scimitar customers back to shore.
