CEBU, Philippines (9 June 2008) — Two female tourists who told a dive shop operator they did not know how to swim were hospitalized after nearly drowning while snorkeling in Cebu.

Koreans Kim Yoona, 24, and Hyesang Cho, 25, are both expected to recover, however, Yoona remains in serious condition after being transferred to a private hospital.

The pair rented snorkeling equipment from the Scandinavian-owned Dolphin Hotel and Beach Resort in Moalboal town after explaining to dive shop manager Joselito Cabaron that they did not know how to swim.

Cabaron said he thought the Koreans were joking because they were both giggling when they said they could not swim.

But an hour or so after they waded into the water in front of the resort, Cabaron saw the women struggling as they drifted away from shore and ordered hotel staff to rescue them.

Police told CDNN that Rudy Poiters, , who owns the resort, promised to pay all of the medical expenses of the two injured tourists.
