CAPE MAY, New Jersey (13 June 2008) — A man died after a scuba diving accident this morning.

Authorities have not yet identified the 34-year-old scuba diving accident victim who was diving off the Bubble Trouble dive boat near the wreck of the USS S-5 submarine.

Coast Guard officials said they scrambled a rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City after they received a call at 10:17am for help from the captain of the Bubble Trouble.

Witnesses said the victim was found unconscious at the surface and pulled aboard the Baroness pleasure boat.

The Coast Guard chopper winched the man up from the Baroness and took him to Cape May County Airport, where he was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Cape May Regional Medical Center.

Soon after the scuba diving accident victim was admitted to hospital, he was pronounced dead.

The accident is under investigation and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
