CHICHESTER, UK (25 June 2008) — A diver was airlifted to St Richard's in Chichester after a scuba diving accident off Sovereign Harbour.

Authorities have not yet identified the injured diver, a woman in her 50s, nor provided details of the accident.

Apparently the woman was one of several divers scuba diving off a commercial dive boat when she resurfaced with symptoms of decompression sickness.

The skipper of the vessel called for help and the woman was taken to St. Richard's Hospital at about 5:10pm.

Authorities said the scuba diving accident victim may be transferred to Queen Alexandra Hospital for medical treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.

Air ambulance
A police helicopter took the injured scuba diver to hospital.
