HONOLULU, Hawaii (12 July 2008) — The body of a renowned local photographer who disappeared while diving has been found.

Sergio Goes, an award-winning island photographer, disappeared while diving with four friends a couple of miles off Waikiki.

The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat Galveston Island spotted the body before noon today on the final leg of their six-hour search pattern.

Friends of the fatally injured diver said Goes was taking pictures while free-diving when he went missing.

Last night as rescuers searched for Goes, The Hawaii chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists awarded him its top photo essay prize at its annual awards ceremony.
