BARNEGAT LIGHT, New Jersey (21 July 2008) — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an injured diver after a scuba diving accident more than 30 miles off the coast of Barnegat Light.
The Coast Guard scrambled a helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City at about 1:00pm after they received a call for help from the crew of the Gypsy Blood dive boat.
Witnesses said Francine Sinotski, 32, was found unconscious at the ocean surface but recovered after being pulled back onto the boat.
The dive boat crew administered oxygen until the helicopter arrived and winched the injured diver aboard.
The Coast Guard helicopter took the scuba diving accident victim to shore and transferred her to a PennSTAR helicopter that rushed her to hospital.
Hospital officials said that Sinotski was in stable condition.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Pepe Carire said the rescue only took 30 minutes thanks to training that enabled to crew to function "like a well-oiled machine".
The crew of the Gypsy Blood dive boat called for help after one of their divers lost consciousness.
