SEA RANCH, California (13 Sep 2008) — A man drowned while diving off Sea Ranch on California's North Coast.

Authorities declined to identify the diving accident victim, who was diving for abalone with two other divers when he disappeared.

The other divers found their friend unconscious and pulled him ashore.

Sonoma County Sheriff's Department and Cal Fire emergency crews responded to a call for help from people who witnessed the accident.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The diver death was the sixth this year on the North Coast.  All of the deaths were related to abalone diving.

Last year seven divers died on the North Coast while hunting for abalone.
