SIGATOKA, Fiji (24 Sep 2008) — An American tourist died after a diving accident off the Coral Coast.

Authorities declined to identify the 53-year-old male pending notification of kin in the USA.

Police Media Liason Officer Atunaisa Sokomuri said the victim was staying at the Reef Resort in Sigatoka.

On Tuesday at about 3pm, he disappeared while snorkeling and free diving.

Other tourists found him floating at the surface unconscious.

He was pulled ashore and rushed to Sigatoka Hospital but he never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead by hospital officials.

Authorities in Fiji told CDNN an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
