HONOLULU, Hawaii (13 Oct 2008) — A tourist from Iowa died after a scuba diving accident in Oahu.

Authorities told CDNN William Cooey, 57, apparently drowned after he was knocked over by a big wave while entering the ocean carrying the weight of a scuba diving tank, weight belt and other scuba equipment.

Paramedics called to the scene rushed Cooey to Straub Hospital where he died two days after the scuba accident.

Cooey's wife, Barb, said the couple was in Hawaii visiting their son Ryan, a marine based in Hawaii.

A funeral service will be held for Cooey at the Delhi United Methodist Church in Dubuque, Iowa.
