SAGRES, Portugal (18 Oct 2008) — Search and recovery divers found the body of a diver who disappeared in Sagres.

Paulo José Cabrita, 43, of Parchal, went missing while illegally spearfishing with his cousin on Sunday night.

At about 1:30am, the cousin returned to the beach and waited for Cabrita.  When he failed to return, the cousin called authorities.

Searchers started looking for the missing diver at dawn on Monday morning and found his body about eight hours later between Sagres and Baleeira Port in a cave at a depth of about 15 meters.

The victim's wife told officials her husband had been spearfishing at night since he was a child.
