SALMON BEACH, California (22 Oct 2008) — A man died in northern California while diving for urchins.

Mendocino County Sheriff's officials said Paul Hartley, 51, of Albion, was found floating unconscious near the F/V Sunshine boat at about 1:30pm.

The skipper of the vessel pulled Hartley aboard, called for help and started CPR.

The victim never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

So far this year, 13 people have died in the ocean off Mendocino and Sonoma counties.
