Scuba diving accident kills New Jersey man

NARRAGANSETT, Rhode Island (8 Nov 2008) — A New Jersey man died scuba diving near Camp Cronin in Point Judith.

Authorities told CDNN that Damir Velcek, 64, of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, was rushed to South County Hospital in Wakefield after he was found floating unconscious in the ocean.

The scuba diving accident victim apparently never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:58pm.

Police declined to release details about the accident but said their investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death.
